Makeup Workshop

This evening I attended a makeup workshop which was organized by a makeup artist friend named Rachael Parnell. She got her own online makeup store called Makeup and Glow in Kelvin Grove Road and I known her since last November 2008. She invited a makeup artist named Frankie Fong who was based in Brisbane. Frankie had been a makeup artist for two years now. He specialised in fashion and editorial makeups. For two hours he made a makeup demo, the natural and dewy look, editorial makeup and a smoky eye technique. He is so talented, and I was really excited to watch his demo. There were 10 of us attending this workshop, some come from different background. Me and my friend Malowina had just graduated from Academy of Makeup after a full time 9 weeks course.. (yepeee.... I am a makeup artist). The other three were still a student makeup artist from the same academy. Then, the rest were makeup artists who had several years of experiences in makeup industries. Frankie is so generous in giving tips in fashion and editorial makeup. We even checked his makeup case. He got fabs makeup products. He is very down to earth person and I think I like his personality. A good advice from him... keep on practice... to built up confident... yeah I think I do need that one... do master the clean and natural look technique then after mastering that technique you can go with wild and crazy makeups..... By the way, the pic was taken with my point and shoot camera.... I don't dare to take more picture because I might disturb the others with my camera flash light.

Kabuki

This is my bronzing brush and it is also call as Kabuki. The intention of this pic... I was trying to capture a close-up photo... trying to see the differences in DOF. Learning the skills all over again is also time consuming but I have to be patient... I am not really satisfied with the outcome of this pic but this is the best pic that I can get hehehe..... anyway.... practice and practice and practice..... keep on practicing...

The way to Mount Olivet

My CP5 rotation 2 is just around the corner and I was allocated to have my clinical prac in Mount Olivet Hospital (Rehabilitation and Palliative care). That hospital was not my preferance at all. I choosed 3 hospitals in my FIPS, they are RBWH, St. Andrews Hospital and Eye hospital in Spring Hill. Unfortunately, for this rotation... I was not lucky enough. This morning I did meet my unit coordinator and we discussed about my issue - public transport issue and the availability time of buses and water ferry in Brisbane City. Not much choice that I have... I can go to Royal Children Hospital, but it is a big NO NO for me.... working with kids in Brisbane will be a major nightmares for me. I have a communication problem with OZ kids (nda ku paham cakap kanak2 orang putih disini, totally surrender ku, baik ku melayan kanak2 melayu di Brunei). Anyway, I just 'Tawakkal'.... so this afternoon with the help of my friend, I went to the city and try to locate where is Mount Olivet Hospital.

Ok, on our journey today, we have to go by bus 391 from Kelvin Grove Road and stop at Adelaide Street and catch the Free Loops bus to go to Eagle Street. Then from Eagle Street, we have to walked and find the ferry terminal. We found one... yeahhh...... but the wrong one hehe... so we have to walked some more steps till we find the right one... yeah the pic is up there...

There, I was confused with the City Ferry and City Cat. We have to check the Map from the notice board. City Ferry are available for Inner City and Cross River Services (from North Quay to Sydney Street - vice versa) while the City Cat has a major route which stretches from University of Queensland to Apollo Road (vice versa). I wish I can show the map, but just for the infos all this services work within zone 1 up to zone 2 only. The above pic is one of the City Ferry... (jgn hairan, ferry kecik saja bah... kalau City Cat baru basar, nanti mengambar...) and that bridge is the Story Bridge.

It took us just 5 minutes to cross the river and what happened, I felt sick (mauk hehehe naik ferry... apa lerrr....). We stop at Thornton Street Ferry terminal. Then we have to walked about 520 meters... that was not to bad (tapi mengapus jua bejalan hehehe...). At the end when we arrived to Mount Olivet.... just look at the pic below here.... thats how it looks like (the pic was taken across the river). Then... you can see the symbols (atu yang pangkah2 ah....) so, I will just 'Tawakkal' during the prac... what to do, its for my learning experience.

My new toys....

Yepeee..... after so many restless and sleepless night, today I bought myself a new camera -Canon 450D + the kit lens, EF-S 55-250 mm IS and a camera bag. I have been dying to buy a Canon 50D, unfortunately I haven't got the budget to buy it, not until next month. The reason why I can't wait to buy a camera, I have been making so many plans for the next two months while I am still in Brisbane. I want to 'click' and 'click' around Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and probably Sydney (cross fingers... hopefully my plan do come true hehehe...). Anyway, the first person that I told about my new camera is my brother who was now in Thailand visiting his friend. So, as some of my friends had known, he has been using my other Canon camera, and we even make a discussion this afternoon that he will probably buy my new camera from me and I will buy a Canon 50D soon (pakah....... alum batah kana booking tia..... hahaha).

This evening, I did tried this new toys... and I did liked the outcome. So, these are the first few pictures that I have taken so far. As it has been a long time since I used my canon, I had lost touch and I forgot a few things on how to use a DSLR. So, back to square one..... hehehe.... revising the techniques, reading my photography books... anyhow, wish me luck on this new little adventure.

Movie World - Hollywood on the Gold Coast

Me and my friends went to Movie World last Sunday on the 12th of April. Six of us altogether; me, Ka Surinah, Nurul (daughter of Shamilah & Hj Rahim) and friends from Sydney Kak Iyay + Amin (hubbynya) + Fayyadh (the little kiddo). The journey began at 7 am where we have to meet at Kelvin Grove Road bus stop to catch the 390/345 bus. Ka Surinah went to the bus stop earlier coz we promised to meet up with Nurul (Ka Shamilah antar kesanalah tu..), then, me.... I just waited for Kak Iyay and the gengs at tower 4 of The Village Centre.

Luckily we don't have to wait that long for the bus to come. We just drop in Roma Station and catch the Gold Coast Express train. Almost ketinggalan, but luckily the people there suruh the train to wait for us. Thanks to Ka Surinah for doing it for us hehehe.... if not, we have to wait for another one hour. The journey went smootly, I was sleepy hahaha... but luckily the two heroins keep on chatting and I just menampung-menampung if I have to ;)

Then, when we arrived at Helensvale Station about an hour plus later we have to catch another bus but I don't remember whats the bus number, what I know, I can see the word Movie World written on it. So, we arrived in Movie World about 9 am, but alum plang open lagi.... tapi we can see quite a few people bebaris in front of the counter. Me, Ka Sur and Nurul bought the tickets via online so we can go pass the counter then the other gengs alum ada tickets but we suruh durang baris dapan-dapan dekat kaunter.

When everybody got their own tickets, we start our journey in Movie World.... oh man... so much excitement in there, wish my wallet is full that time hahaha... but anyway, I still can go there with my multiple entries ticket which cost me Aud$70 (sempena 150 tahun Queensland, so Queensland residents dapat discount tickets hehehe.... termasuklah rakyat asing yg menetap disini sebagai student).

The best part in Movie World, we took pictures with Cat Woman and other cartoon characters. The kadainya pun mcm2 ada.... kadai Shrek, then Harry Potter Shop, etc... nda lagi ku ingat nama2 kadainya... but for sure so many shops lah. We watch the Hollywood Stunt Driver.... crazy.... I managed to record it in my webcam and at the end when I watch it back home, paning-paning lalat selajur. At 11.30 am we lepak-lepak depan Rick's Cafe Americain & Rick's Bar and this restaurant is a Halal certified yehee... again a big thank you to Ka sur for belanja (I mean sedakah) us for lunch. We owe you a lot ka Sur hehehe... jgn marah and jgn jara ahhh.... ;). Then among the six of us... eh tolak little kiddo si wang Fayyadh, the five of us, time bab lunch ani hahahaha... tolak Nurul saja makan sikit, the rest wahh.... sungguh berselera.... nyasal nda ambil gambar masa time makan... nda apa, next time will do... I guess we all click in time makan.

After lunch, we went around the area and me & Nurul main Scooby-Doo Spoky Coaster - mannnnn.... what a long que.... during our turn nasib baik nda tejeluak muntah gara-gara naik coaster lapas lunch. Then, we even got picture taken while on the coaster yeheee... ada jua kenang-kenangan but of course we have to pay for it. After that we naik Wild West Falls Adventure Ride.... got pictures too... at the end of the ride me and Nurul basah baju.

Then, the grand finale of the day, we watched the All Stars Parade presented by Austin Power charater. That was really fun. Got them all recorded.... wish I should take photos earlier on hehehe so that I can show it here..... anyway.... I got a few photos to share with friends.... till then...

Makeup Sessions.

Me and a couple of OZ friends did a makeup course in the city. So as part of the assessment we have to do working experience in makeup services.... so, what we did, we have to find a few 'victims' (hehehe.....) and put it in our assessment record. Makeup is another hobby of mine beside photograpy (terbengkalai dahhhh....) before... I used to play makeup with my older nieces and closed friends in Brunei and even my sister-in-law and I try to put makeups on them if we have to attend functions/ceremonies. I even do hairstyling on them.... yg curling curling pakai tongs atuuu..... hahahah..... When I made up my mind to do a makeup course while I am studying in Brisbane, my hubby, my brothers and a few sisters give me a big laugh on me.... 'Apa angin kan belajar makep'...... I don't know why.... I guess it must be funny for them heheheh.... :)... maybe.... I think...... ;)

Anyway, I don't called my self as a makeup artist because I still have lots to learn.... lots and lots and lots...... and... lots of practical hours to do too. So, my makeup is till not perfect yet, compare to those professional makeup artists in Brisbane and Brunei. However, I did have lots and lots of fun doing it with my friends..... to me it is kind of a therapeutic to release my tension hahaha.... anyway, I was hoping in the future I can learn more makeup styles, especially Bruneian/Indonesian/Malaysian styles. Ok dokey.... just to show some pics.... again, it is not perfect... it is just a hobby.....

CP5 Rotation 1 (14th Feb - 16th March 2009)

Hi peps,

Its been a long time since I updated my blog, nada masa, very busy with my study and practical work. I haven't got the time to 'click' 'click' around Brisbance City since ages ago. Haven't got my canon camera with me, I lend it to my lil bro who is now crazy about photography and at the end I even lost touch on my hobby. With the help of my little point and shoot camera.... I guess I can take pictures but infortunately not as good quality as the pro camera.

Times do really goes so fast, I have 2 more months to go before I go home for good to Brunei (yeheeee).... but I do feel a bit sad because Brisbane is a second home for me for the past few years. The place where I stay (Kelvin Grove)... I got a few Bruneian friends who came here with their families.. ..so we used to gather in Kulgun Park and have a little chit chat and picnic.... which is almost every week if the weather is ok. So, it is kind of sad to leave my good and closed friends here.... for sure I will cry by the end of the day 'sob'.... 'sob'....

Anyway, I will just post the latest pic.... just to show some for the families and a few friends... ;)
